Absentee Ballot FAQ’s:

If you are requesting an absentee ballot, the request must be received in writing and must include your name, address, date of birth, and signature. The absentee ballot request form can be found at http://sos.mt.gov/ELB/forms/voters/absenteeballot.pdf

If you have moved from your previous residence and would like to request an absentee ballot you will need to include both a registration card updating your residence as well as an absentee request form. Both of these forms can be found at http://sos.mt.gov/ELB/Forms_and_Publications.asp.

Finally, if you are not sure if you are registered or where you are registered, there is a “Polling Place Locator Service” that will give you your most current registration information, including where you vote, as well as provide you with a link to the voter information pamphlet concerning ballot issues. This link is www.sos.mt.gov.

If you find that you are not registered, or if you have moved from another county and meet the 30-day residence requirement for the State of Montana by Election Day, and have not been issued an absentee ballot from another county or state, you must go to the County Election Office and register in

At the time you register you will be issued a ballot. This ballot can be voted in the office or you may take it with you but it must be returned to the County Election Office. You will not be eligible to vote at the polls in this election. This late registration process will be in effect from now until 8:00 pm on Election Day, with the exception of a period of time from noon on November 3^rd until the polls open on Election Day. If you use this option, please remember to bring identification and if possible, in order to save yourself some time as well as to ensure that there is time to handle any unforeseen circumstance, do this before Election Day, as on Election Day there is a good possibility of long lines.

We will be issuing absentee ballots through noon on November 3^rd, and will begin registering late registrants and issuing ballots to them again at 7:00 a.m. on Election Day and will accept registrations and issue ballots until 8:00 p.m.

Voted absentee ballots can be dropped off at the County Election Office (preferred), or at a polling place on Election Day.
